ABSTRACT:
Magnetic particles of modified .gamma.-ferric oxide particles for magnetic recording media which have excellent electrical conductivity, saturation magnetization, and print-through, and have a higher coercivity, are prepared by modifying .gamma.-ferric oxide particles first with cobalt and then with ferrous iron, both in the presence of an alkaline earth metal salt in an alkaline solution containing the .gamma.-ferric oxide particles dispersed therein.
