ABSTRACT:
A ferromagnetic thin metal film type magnetic recording medium is disclosed, comprising a non-magnetic support having thereon a ferromagnetic thin metal film, wherein a perfluoropolyether having at least one polar group having the saturation adsorption amount (mg/m.sup.2) of at least 4.0 mg/m.sup.2 against the ferromagnetic thin metal film is coated or applied onto the surface of the ferromagnetic thin metal film. There is also disclosed a method for preparing a ferromagnetic thin metal film type magnetic recording medium comprising forming a ferromagnetic thin metal film, subjecting the ferro-magnetic thin metal film to a treatment with oxygen gas, ozone gas, a heat treatment or a treatment with an inert gas, and then applying a perfluoropolyether having at least one polar group to the ferromagnetic thin metal film.
