ABSTRACT:
A method for preparing a chlorinated vinyl aromatic polymer, comprises dissolving a vinyl aromatic polymer represented by the general formula ##STR1## where R.sup.1, R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 may be the same or different and each represents hydrogen or a C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 lower alkyl group, and n is an integer of from 50 to 30,000, in an organic solvent, and subjecting it to an electrolytic reaction in the presence of an aqueous solution containing chlorine ions.
