ABSTRACT:
A method and apparatus for photothermal detoxification of toxic organic compound is provided. The apparatus includes a thermally insulated reaction vessel maintained at a temperature greater than 200.degree. C., and a radiation source such as arc emission or a laser which irradiates the compound at a wavelength of less than 300 nm for at least 2 seconds to produce nontoxic reaction products.
