ABSTRACT:
Condensed aluminum phosphates, useful as hardeners for water glass cements, are prepared in a solid state reaction by dry mixing aluminum hydroxide with an ammonium phosphate, heating the mixture at an initial temperature below 250.degree. C. for longer than about 2 hours and then raising the temperature in stages to at least about 400.degree. C. so as to minimize foaming and to avoid any liquefaction of the mixture during the reaction.
