ABSTRACT:
The class of compounds represented by the generic formula, Ln.sub.2 (BO.sub.2).sub.2 (CO.sub.3).sub.2 .multidot.5H.sub.2 O wherein Ln stands for a rare-earth element, have never been known to the art. These novel compounds are produced by allowing Ln.sub.2 (CO.sub.3).sub.3.mH.sub.2 O (wherein, m is a number not greater than 15) and boric acid, H.sub.3 BO.sub.3, to react with each other at a molar ratio of 1:2 under a practically air-tight condition in a container, with the CO.sub.2 gas removed continuously as it is formed in the course of the reaction.
