ABSTRACT:
A quartz glass vessel having mutually opposed first and second neck-shaped portions is heated over the first neck-shaped portion while flushing the vessel with gas, then pinched over an external current wire and collapsed over a metal foil by means of reduced pressure to form a seal. The second neck-shaped portion may also be collapsed over a metal foil by reduced pressure in the lamp vessel to form a seal. The seals are preferably shaped to form flat external surfaces.
