ABSTRACT:
A method for the high speed chromium plating of piston rings, cylinder liners and the like wherein the cathodic workpiece is rotated at a peripheral speed of 1-4 m/sec. relative to a concentrically disposed anode. The latter may comprise a single spoked member or a plurality of rectangular pieces to thereby create a turbulence in the electrolyte bath. When a cylindrical anode is used, a bladed agitator is secured to the rotating workpiece to generate turbulence. The interelectrode spacing is from 0.1 to 4t cm with a multipolar anode, where t is the thickness of an anode pole. The current density is from 200 - 600 amps/dm.sup.2, and the bath temperature is from 20.degree. - 50.degree. C or from 65.degree. - 80.degree. C, depending on the plating characteristics desired.
