ABSTRACT:
An apparatus for forming a surface structure. In one embodiment, the apparatus has three stations, with a single-sided mold, or die, at each station. A skin is formed to a single-sided die at the first station, by applying gas pressure to a skin preform placed between the die and a cap that confines the gas against the skin preform, for example. The die and skin are then rotated to a second station where a build-up is applied to the skin, and then rotated to a third station where a backing is applied to the build-up to result in a unitary surface structure.
