ABSTRACT:
Nitric oxide is formed by the oxidation of ammonia. An ammonia containing gas is contacted with an oxidation catalyst comprising stainless steel in the presence of oxygen at a temperature between about 500.degree. C. and 1100.degree. C. in order to effect a reaction selectivity of at least 50%.
