ABSTRACT:
An expandable sleeping compoartment, mounted on a vehicle, is made by placing, externally onto the vehicle, a rigid casing around a vehicle opening, a separate canopy, and a separate canopy support structure. The canopy and the canopy support structure are housed within the casing when the sleeping compartment is in the collapsed, nonuse configuration. The sleeping compartment is put into its expanded, use configuration by manually moving the casing rectilinearly outwardly from the vehicle, which will simultaneously and collectively rectilinearly extend the canopy and the canopy support to an extended, generally horizontal position. Vertical terrain-engaging supports are interposd between the casing, when the casing is in its expanded, use configuration, and the underlying terrain, when the sleeping compartment occupied.
