ABSTRACT:
A method comprising stimulating the biosynthesis of glutathione in mammalian cells by contacting the cells with an effective amount of a compound of the formula: ##STR1## wherein R is a (CHOH).sub.n CH.sub.2 OH and wherein n is 1-5, preferably R is derived from a D-aldose monosaccharide.
