ABSTRACT:
The present invention relates to a method for removing zinc from solid carbon black, preferably obtained from the pyrolysis of rubber, said carbon black containing at least 3%, by weight, of zinc, calculated as ZnO, said method including the steps of contacting the carbon black at a temperature of at least 750.degree. C. with a gas selected from chlorine and hydrogen chloride to form gaseous zinc chloride from the zinc contained in said carbon black, and separating the gaseous zinc chloride from the solid carbon black.
