ABSTRACT:
Esterification reactions conducted in the presence of Lewis acids, including the reactions between aromatic carboxylic acids and alcohols and between epoxides and carboxylic acids, may be conducted with the use as the catalyst of a hexaalkylguanidinium or .alpha.,.omega.-bis(pentaalkylguanidinium)alkane salt such as hexaethyiguanidinium chloride or bromide.
