ABSTRACT:
Pixels on the edge (A, B, C, D; E, F, G, H; I) of previously predicted neighboring picture blocks (A′, B′) are used for directional prediction of a picture block (C′). Depending on the prediction direction, the pixels used for prediction are prefiltered along an edge of the actual picture block to be predicted (C′) in order to suppress prediction artifacts.
