ABSTRACT:
An automatic pursuing method in which a video camera pursues an object by utilizing a specific color picked from a shooting object and register it which is represented by a specific color signal so that drawbacks inherent to conventional methods utilizing sound or an infrared light are prevented. The method comprises a color registration step for selecting a specific color of color components of the object and registering the specific color, a signal detecting step for detecting a first signal-representing the specific color registered in the color signal registration step out of a second signal representing a camera image containing the object to be shot by the video camera, a dividing and determining step for dividing the camera image into a plurality of regions and determining which one of the plurality of regions contains most of the first signal representing the specific color, and a drive control step for rotating the video camera and for directing an optical axis of the video camera toward the one of the plurality of regions upon its determination.
