A method enabling the detection of stolen mobile communication devices by configuring a Centralized Equipment Identification Register (C-EIR) (120), identifying the Equipment Identification Numbers of stolen mobile communication devices, storing the Equipment Identification Numbers of stolen mobile communication devices in a repository (380) and enabling third party retrieval of the Equipment Identification Numbers of stolen mobile communication devices thus enabling detection of the stolen mobile communication devices and related systems.
