ABSTRACT:
Method and system for the reduction of artifacts from high absorption objects, such as metal pins. From an image, such as a computed tomography image, an image of the high absorption object is extracted by thresholding. A boundary of the object in the image is estimated. This information is used to modify the projection data to reduce the artifacts due to the object. The projection data may be rebinned from fan beam to parallel beam. After the projection data is modified the parallel beam projection data is reconstructed and the high absorption object image previously extracted may be superimposed on the reconstructed image. The original, modified and superimposed images may be displayed and compared.
