A printer for carrying out the method comprises an ink jet printer for printing ink onto a printing surface of a heat sealing label strip having the printing surface on a first side and having on a second side a surface coated with an adhesive, and a heater for simultaneously fusing the adhesive on the second side to an adhesive, tacky state and drying ink printed on the printing surface on the first side by the printer.
