ABSTRACT:
The formation of insoluble oxide precipitates during the electrodeposition f cobalt and cobalt-base alloys from an acidic aqueous cobalt sulfate electrolyte in the presence of an insoluble anode is suppressed by adding the salt or oxide of a metal selected from the group consisting of vanadium, titanium, and molybdenum. While the additive participates in the electrochemical activity occurring at both the anode and the cathode, there is no codeposition thereof with the electroplated metal or metals.
