ABSTRACT:
An apparatus, and method of using the apparatus, for use in a drill string inserted into a borehole to stabilize the path of travel of a drilling tool. The apparatus is attached to the lower end of a drill string, and comprises a tubular section having a passageway therethrough communicating with the drill string passageway and a sleeve telescoped over the tubular section having at least two camming surfaces on the outer periphery thereof, the camming surfaces being substantially on opposite sides of the sleeve and spaced longitudinally along the sleeve. The rotation of the sleeve on the tubular section is selectively controlled.
