A method of treating a burn injury comprises administering to the injury a composition comprising petroleum wax, paraffin oil and a topically acceptable refrigerant, wherein subsequent evaporation of the refrigerant is effective to form a foam and maintain the foam at a temperature of from 0.degree. to 10.degree.
