ABSTRACT:
A method and related system for use in producing a representation of acoustical impedances of body materials, such as for use in ultrasonic imaging of a body for diagnostic purposes. In the method, at least one Letcher Wavelet (L.sup.M) of ultrasonic energy is introduced into the body to be diagnosed. The reflections of the ultrasonic energy are received by a transducer and sent to a CPU for transformation. The received reflections are transformed, using a technique cooperative with the characteristics of the L.sup.M wavelet, to produce a representation of the acoustical impedances from the body materials. Such representation can be in the form of data, graphical or an image, such as on a CRT. Further, the representation can be in the form of the density of the body materials or the velocity of sound through the body materials.
