ABSTRACT:
The invention discloses a method, device, and apparatus of very high reliability and stability for the multiparameter analysis of particles and cells in suspension. The very high reliability and stability of these devices follows from the fact that the various cavities, channels, and holes join everywhere at very small angles and therefore the joining or rejoining of the various liquids flowing in the device occurs with practically zero turbulence, and that nowhere in the flow-system do air bubbles get trapped because sharp edges and corners are eliminated everywhere within said system. From the fact that the cavities, channels, and holes join at small angles and are of short length follows that the cleaning and maintenance of said device is also very easy because the said character of said cavities, etc., permits a direct, visual observation of any point of the inside of said flow-system and an easy reaching for cleaning purposes of any part of it, from where it follows that the routine work with this type of particle analyzer is extremely easy. Three different UV-light sources are combinable to this type of analyzer apparatus which extends the applicability of said apparatus beyond that of the conventional models. The sensitivity of this analyzer type is about ten times higher than that of the jet type frequently used nowadays in cytological research. The said analyzer device is readily combinable with a cell or particle sorter device, such as described in U.S. Pat. No. 4,175,662, so its application can be extended to cell or particle sorting, too.
