ABSTRACT:
A conjugated diolefin is reacted with at least one compound selected from the group consisting of a carboxylic acid and a carboxylic acid anhydride in the presence of oxygen and a catalyst comprising a lead compound and at least one additional compound selected from the group consisting of an alkali metal compound and a halogenated olefin having a halogen radical in the allylic position. Suitable alkali metal compounds include salts, including halides and carboxylates, and oxides and mixtures thereof. Suitable lead compounds include oxides, carboxylates, nitrates, halides and mixtures thereof.
