ABSTRACT:
Methine dyes represented by the following general formulae (A), (B) or (C): ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 represents an alkyl group (which may be substituted), an aralkyl group (which may be substituted), an aryl group (which may be substituted), a 5- or 6-membered heterocyclic residue, a carboxyl group, an alkoxycarbonyl group, an aryloxycarbonyl group or an amino group (which may be substituted); R.sub.2, R.sub.3, R.sub.4 and R.sub.5, which may be the same or different, each represents an alkyl group (which may be substituted), an aralkyl group (which may be substituted), an aryl group (which may be substituted) or a 5- or 6-membered heterocyclic residue, with R.sub.2 additionally representing a hydrogen atom; Z represents an atomic group necessary to form a heterocyclic nucleus containing a 5- or 6-membered hetero ring; Y.sub.1 and Y.sub.2, which may be the same or different, each represents a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group (which may be substituted), a hydroxyl group, an alkoxy group, an amino group (which may be substituted) or a sulfo group; L, L.sub.1 and L.sub.2 each represents a methine group (which may be substituted); l, n and p each represents 1 or 2 and m represents 1, 2 or 3.
