ABSTRACT:
A composition is provided for use in forming varistor blocks containing mostly zinc oxide together with other impurities, including significant amounts of silicon carbide to a concentration of less than one molar percent of the total varistor composition. The method of forming varistor blocks according to the invention includes mixing zinc oxide powder together with the silicon carbide and other impurities, and then sintering the mixture at a temperature in the range of from approximately 1100.degree. C. to approximately 1250.degree. C.
