ABSTRACT:
The invention provides a synthetic, calcined metal-oxide-silica adsorbent of which at least 40% of its surface area is contained in pores with radius of at least 2 nm. The invention further provides a process for refining oil, wherein the oil is treated with the absorbent as a bleaching solid. The adsorbent can be regenerated by calcination without substantial loss of activity.
