A metal cutting tool having a metal cutting tip with at least one cutting edge defined between a rake face and a relief flank and at least one recess formed in said relief flank and constituting a coolant channel and extending towards said cutting edge and being spaced therefrom by a spacing s which is of the order of the prescribed permissible width of flank wear VB.sub.max.
