ABSTRACT:
A locking mechanism10for a medical sharp device such as a syringe assembly62includes a retainer part12for retaining a hypodermic needle22, and a connector part14. The retainer part includes lugs46for engagement with a recess82formed in a neck70of the syringe assembly. When a plunger72of the syringe assembly is pushed fully forwards, the lugs56of the retainer part12engage behind a ledge54of the connector part14and the lugs46disengage from the recess82. The plunger72may then be retracted, pulling the needle22into the barrel64of the assembly. The neck portion may be eccentrically mounted on the barrel and means116,118may be provided for preventing rotation of the plunger72in the barrel64.
