ABSTRACT:
Disclosed is a measurement system having reader element standoff. The system comprises a calibrated reference member for use with a reader head in making a measurement. The system also includes a reader head comprising a reader element configured to move laterally with respect to the calibrated reference member for making the measurement relative to a reference position on the calibrated reference member. Also, standoff structure is provided for establishing a variable standoff distance between the reader element and the calibrated reference member while substantially invariably maintaining a fixed lateral position of the reader element within the reader head.
