ABSTRACT:
A material containment system is described that generally includes a containment tank, a skirt that is coupled to, supported by and extends outwardly from the tank, and a dike which defines a chamber for receiving the contents of the tank should such contents leak or otherwise be expelled from the tank. A tank stand optionally may be placed inside the chamber for receiving and supporting the tank. The skirt is spaced from the dike and extends beyond the periphery of the chamber so that substances contacting the skirt, such as rain, are guided away from the chamber. The system also may include at least one, and often plural, releasable tank fasteners that releasably couple the tank to the dike. The tank typically is a single-walled tank. Alternative embodiments include a double-walled tank, and a tank that has an upper double-walled portion and a lower single-walled portion. With double-walled embodiments, a space is defined between the two walls which may be filled with a material such as an antifreeze, a coolant or an insulating material. The system preferably is transportable, and may include laterally spaced parallel brackets coupled to a bottom portion of the dike for receiving the tines of a lift truck. The tank also may include a fastening device for coupling the tank, and possibly the skirt, to a crane-type lifting device.
