Disclosed is a method of surface-roughening an aluminum support comprising the step of electrolytically surface-roughening an aluminum support in an electrolyte solution, supplying an alternating current with an alternating waveform having a positive polarity period and a negative polarity period in one cycle, and comprising arriving at the largest current value from a zero current value in the positive polarity period of one cycle and then falling, followed by rising to a current maximum in one cycle, wherein the time t.sub.1, which is required to arrive at the largest current value, has the following relationships:
