ABSTRACT:
A process for the manufacture of Bz-1-bromobenzanthrone by brominating finely divided benzanthrone in aqueous suspension, wherein the improvement comprises treating benzanthrone having a mean particle size of 30 .mu.m or less with bromine or brominating agent at above 80.degree. C.
A product which contains from 91 to 94% by weight of Bz-1-bromobenzanthrone is obtained.
