Magnetic recording media having a coating containing harsh pigment like CrO.sub.2 particles and adapted for frequent contact with a head, with good durability, abrasivity, etc., accommodated by using a lubricant system including a fluoro-silicone oil and a compatible fatty-acid-ester like butoxy ethyl stearate.
