ABSTRACT:
A magnetic recording medium having good perpendicular magnetic anisotropy is provided in which an alloy mainly consisting of Fe and Ti; or Fe, Ti and Cr; is fabricated on a substrate to have a structure of mixed phase comprising an amorphous phase and an isolated crystalline grains with bcc phase surrounded by the amorphous phase to have the perpendicular magnetic anisotropy, the atomic percents of Ti component in the Fe-Ti alloy being 15-21 and the atomic percents of Ti and Cr components in the Fe-Ti-Cr alloy being 5-21 and 5-15, respectively.
Thus, a good perpendicular magnetic recording medium suitable for massproduction can be provided at a lower cost by using relatively cheap Fe and Ti as main components.
