ABSTRACT:
A machine tool1comprises a spindle head11for supporting a spindle9to which a tool7is fitted, a column5for supporting the spindle head11and a table13for mounting a workpiece15, and machines the workpiece15by relatively moving the tool and the workpiece. A cavity5ais defined in the column so that a liquid can be circulated. A liquid pump19is provided for circulating the liquid into the cavity5a. A circulating pump controller27is provided for controlling the circulation of the liquid by activating and deactivating the liquid pump19. By circulating the liquid into the cavity5aof the column5, the temperature of each part of the column5is evenly maintained to prevent the thermal deformation of the column5.
