ABSTRACT:
Disclosed is a sintered ceramic article that exhibits a primary crystalline phase of cordierite having an analytical oxide composition, expressed in weight percent on an oxide basis, of 49-53% SiO2, 33-38% Al2O3, 12-16% MgO and which exhibits a coefficient of thermal expansion equal to or more negative than −0.6×10−7/° C. over the temperature range of about 25° C. to about 800° C. Also disclosed is a method for producing a ceramic article comprising the aforementioned cordierite.
