ABSTRACT:
A dispersion compensating optical waveguide fiber that includes a core region surrounded by and in contact with a clad layer, wherein the respective refractive index profiles of the core region and the clad layer can be selected to provide, at a wavelength of 1550 nm, a total dispersion of less than −25 ps
m/km and a bend loss of less than 0.25 dB per turn on a 20 mm diameter mandrel. The dispersion compensating optical waveguide fiber can also have an effective area of greater than 25 μm2. The dispersion compensating optical waveguide fiber may include a cladding layer having randomly dispersed voids situated therein.
