ABSTRACT:
A lockup device7is provided with a plurality of friction surfaces to absorb and damp torsional vibrations to increase capacity. The lockup device7functions both as a clutch and as an elastic coupling mechanism. The lockup device7has a clutch plate71,a drive plate72,a driven plate73,a plurality of torsion springs74,a piston75,and a piston coupling mechanism76.The clutch plate71has a friction coupling part71cand a cylindrical part71bfor bearing the centrifugal load of the torsion springs74.The internal surface of the cylindrical part71bof the clutch plate71bears the radially outward facing part of each torsion spring74directly. More specifically, the outward facing parts of the torsion springs74are born by increasing only the thickness of the cylindrical part71bof the clutch plate71.
