Particles of crystalline LiX.multidot.2A1(OH).sub.3 .multidot.nH.sub.2 O, where X is a monovalent, divalent, or trivalent anion, especially chlorine, are useful in gas chromatography in separating hydrocarbons according to boiling point ranges.
