ABSTRACT:
A mixture of particulate NiO, a suitable source of Li.sup..sym. cation and an alkali chloride salt solvent is heated to melt the chloride solvent in which the source of Li.sup..sym. cation dissolves along with a portion of the NiO particles forming a solution of lithiated nickel oxide which precipitates onto the undissolved NiO particles forming a black adherent encapsulating coating thereon.
