ABSTRACT:
Liquid detergent containing enzymes particularly proteases are stabilized against enzyme degradation prior to use by inclusion of an inhibitor of the enzyme having a dissociation constant of between about 1.times.10.sup.-2 M and about 1.times.10.sup.-7 M which binds to the enzyme such that prior to use of the detergent at least about 55% of the enzyme is bound to the enzyme inhibitor essentially at the enzyme active site. Such enzyme inhibitor so selected can be used effectively in concentrations much lower than previously taught; i.e., from about 0.002% to less than 0.1% weight/weight.
