ABSTRACT:
There is disclosed a liquid crystal shutter that uses two kinds of spacers having different spherical diameters from each other. The spacers are formed to satisfy the condition:in-line-formulae description="In-line Formulae" end="lead"?r<R−σR−σr−Pin-line-formulae description="In-line Formulae" end="tail"?wherein “R” represents a spherical diameter of the first kind spacer, “r” represents a spherical diameter of the second kind spacer, “σR” and “σr” represent standard deviations of these spherical diameters, and “P” represents a permissible amount of dent of a liquid crystal layer. The spacers are dispersed so as to satisfy the condition:in-line-formulae description="In-line Formulae" end="lead"?[{π·D·(R2/2)+π·d·(r2/2)}/x·y]<1/10cin-line-formulae description="In-line Formulae" end="tail"?wherein “D” represents a dispersal density of the first kind spacers, “d” represents a dispersal density of the second kind spacers, “x·y” represents a cavity size of a cell, in which the liquid crystal layer is enclosed, and “C” represents a contrast of the liquid crystal shutter required at the opening and closing thereof.
