ABSTRACT:
A liquid crystal display device1has liquid crystal6sealed between a pixel substrate4, having a pixel electrode10composed of a reflective electrode42that reflects light and a transparent electrode41that transmits light, and a opposed substrate5having a opposed electrode23located opposite the pixel electrode10. The liquid crystal display device1displays an image while being illuminated by light reflected from the reflective electrode42or with light transmitted through the transparent electrode41. The pixel substrate4has a coloring layer43, which is formed on top of the reflective electrode42to add a color to light and has an opening43aabove the reflective electrode42, and a multiple-gap portion44, which is formed continuously on top of the coloring layer43and in the opening43aand narrows the thickness of the liquid crystal6above the reflective electrode42. The transparent electrode41is laid on the multiple-gap portion44and the coloring layer43. The transparent electrode41and the reflective electrode42conduct to each other through a contact hole44aformed in the multiple-gap portion44, inside the rim of the opening43a.
