ABSTRACT:
A semi-transmission type liquid crystal display device includes a liquid crystal display panel LPN in which a liquid crystal layer LQ is held between an array substrate AR and a counter-substrate CT that are disposed to face each other, a first polarization control element POL1provided on an outer surface of the array substrate AR, which is opposed to a surface of the array substrate AR that holds the liquid crystal layer LQ, and a second polarization control element POL2provided on an outer surface of the counter-substrate CT, which is opposed to a surface of the counter-substrate CT that holds the liquid crystal layer LQ. The first polarization control element POL1and second polarization control element POL2control a polarization state of light that passes therethrough, such that light in a polarization state of elliptically polarized light is to be incident on the liquid crystal layer LQ.
