ABSTRACT:
In an LCD, according to an embodiment of the present invention, a projection6is structured on top of insulation layer8on a TFT glass substrate10and under part of a black matrix9. The projection6encircles the transparent region in each pixel so that a spacer17cannot climb over the projection6and enter the transparent region even though a certain pressure is applied onto the substrates10and11. The width of the projection6is equal to or less than the diameter of the spacer17. The height of the projection6is equal to or longer than approximately 1% the length of the diameter of the spacer17, and it is preferable that it be equal to or longer than approximately 2%.
