A liquid crystal1includes a pair of substrates7aand7bwhich hold a liquid crystal L therebetween, a light guide4provided opposite to one of the substrates, a FPC3aconnected to one of the substrates7aand7b, and a LED21provided opposite to a light receiving surface4aof the light guide4. The LED21is mounted on the FPC3aand arranged opposite to the light receiving surface4aof the light guide4. The LED21is preferably positioned relative to the light guide4by engagement between the pines provided on the LED21and the recesses31provided on the light guide4.
