ABSTRACT:
A liquid crystal composition contains at a predetermined mixing ratio: a first liquid crystal material of at least one compound represented by general formula (I): ##STR1## (wherein each of R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 is independently an alkyl group having 1 to 5 carbon atoms) and a second liquid crystal material of at least a compound represented by general formula (VII) among compounds represented by general formulas (II) to (VII): ##STR2## (wherein each of R.sup.3, R.sup.4, R.sup.5, R.sup.6, R.sup.7, and R.sup.8 is independently an alkyl group having 2 to 7 carbon atoms). The liquid crystal composition may optionally contain at least one compound represented by the following general formula: ##STR3## (wherein each of R.sup.9 and R.sup.10 is independently an alkyl group having 2 to 5 carbon atoms).
