ABSTRACT:
The disclosure is a liquid absorbable material comprising a porous formed article possessed of partitioning walls of a cross-linked polymer and continued micropores, characterized in that said material has a density in the range of 0.2 to 1.0 g/cm.sup.3, and (a) that said partitioning walls exhibit a swelling degree to kerosine in the range of 2 to 10, and that said material has an absorption capacity per unit volume, the capacity being at least 4 cm.sup.3 /cm.sup.3 for water, ethanol, toluene and kerosine, respectively, or (b) that said material has an absorption capacity per unit weight, the capacity being at least 10 g/g for water, ethanol, toluene and kerosine, respectively, the liquids being at a temperature not less than the softening point of the cross-linked polymer. The liquid absorbable material can absorb liquids such as water and petroleum quickly and expand with the absorbed liquid.
